East Dene is a superb place to visit if one wants to escape from the modern world.  With its origins in the 16th century, the present house dates from mid-Victorian times and was once the home of the poet Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837 - 1909).  Both the house and gardens still retain a pre-Raphaelite aura.
